Colour Theory - Red (the lip)

The red lip has always been the go-to look for glamour and fashion.  It's striking and bold while at the same time being classic and timeless. No need to list the Hollywood starlets who made the red lip so famous because it's pretty obvious.  As I know it's been a while since my last post I thought I'd do something extra special and use photos from an amazing make shift photoshoot I did with two beautiful and talented ladies (collaboration with Cass of http://cass-parade.tumblr.com/). Keep reading for a list of products and some tips to get the perfect red lip!

Model: Heidi

Keeping with a theme of something a bit festive we wanted Heidi to look like a Christmas card and what else would create that look but some full lashes and a gorgeous red lip?!

I started with the base of glowing skin using cream and powder highlighters as well as the warmth of bronzer at the back of her cheeks.  The eyes were kept neutral but defined using metallic looking gold and bronze and a flick of black liner to help conceal the band of a full fluttery false lash with longer wispy lashes on the outer corners to lift the eye.  This lift was exaggerated with a tight ballerina style top knot adorned with feathers.  The pulled back hair automatically lifts the face and makes the eyes appear brighter.  Heidi's lips may be a bright red but they are far from fussy.  Prepping the lip with a good lip conditioner followed by a quick exfoliation using just a q-tip the matte red lipstick is worked into the lip to provide a stain base allowing for the colour to wear evenly throughout the day.  Only after the lipstick is applied is a lip liner brought in simply to add symmetry and fullness to the shape of the mouth.  Creating perfected edges using concealer and a small detailing brush around the outside of the colour polishes the lip off.

This look would be perfect for the holiday season or anytime you want to feel pretty damn fab.  Also please note how GORGEOUS Heidi is... and lets take the time to thank her for being such a good sport.  We loves.
